I served as a church pastor for 14 years: 3.5 years in formation and 10.5 years in local parish ministry. One thing about pastoral ministry that I particularly liked was preaching. I didn’t mind coming up with thoughts and reflections to share every week.
I no longer have the need to think and reflect publicly, so:
- I miss it a bit and like to take the opportunity occasionally to “think out loud”
- I no longer have a weekly deadline and demand, so these are organic rather than required
